The executives at Universal quickly found out to keep up with Disney they were going to have to expand from one theme park to two. In the late 1990’s Universal and a slew of marketing firms starting planning the second park which is called Islands of Adventure.
Universal knew right up front, they could not compete with Disney, nor did they want too. What they determined was that Disney catered in great degree to families with small children. Universal found in their studies many teenagers left Disney World unfulfilled. Their reports showed teens felt the Disney experience was a bit too childish. Their solution of course was to construct a theme park that was focused on teens. What did they of course was to construct one of the premier roller coaster theme parks in the country.
Special Tip: Most of the thrill rides and roller coasters at Islands of Adventure require a child to be at least 50 inches tall. Please check out the list of attractions before planning your day, there is nothing more heart breaking than to see a small child not be able to ride a ride because he/she is not tall enough.
